The Importance Of Changing Engine Oil On Time
Do you know engine oil is important to smooth the component movements in the engine and the use of high quality engine oil is essential. Let us learn of the importance of changing engine oil on time.
Every engine oil has a different viscosity level according to its grade. That is why you see a variety of engine oil types and grades in the market such as 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-40, etc. where it functions to lubricate component movement in the engine such as in the piston, crankshaft, connecting rod, camshaft and others.
The main reason for this is to reduce damage in the engine especially when car owners ignore changing engine oil on schedule. Changing the engine oil must be in accordance with the schedule and recommendations of vehicle manufacturers.
Engine oil loses its lubricating force day by day when used as it is exposed to engine heat and the oil level of oxide. Heat changes the molecular structure of the engine oil causing it to lose lubrication properties. In addition, the oil will become dirty as it is mixed with weary metals when the engine is operating. A longer time period between changes can result in the oil color changing from yellow to black indicative of dirt accumulation and oxidization.
Generally, many drivers change engine oil depending on the type and model of the vehicle and engine oil grade. For example, mineral oils should be exchanged when they reach 5,000 km or 2 months, semi-synthetic oils at 7,000 km or 3 months and fully synthetic oils at 10,000km or 5 months.
Furthermore, engine oil contributes to engine cooling and the cooling properties decrease through time. Old engine oil will cause the engine to operate hotter than usual and will result in extreme wear.
The worst component affected is the piston ring, where it will go through significant wear and tear and therefore need to be replaced.
Drivers need to take care of their cars and change their engine oil according to schedule and time recommended by their car manufacturer. Vehicle engine life span can last longer when someone is diligent and constantly changes the engine oil according to schedule.
